"The clay pot he was crafting got spoiled in his hands, so he molded it into a new pot, according to his vision."
(Jeremiah 18:4)
Sometimes, our circumstances seem contrary to God's plans for our lives. However, we must persevere and thank God for everything. He is our Potter and knows what is good for us.
Consequently, the expression "in the potter's house" comes from the Bible and is found in chapter 18 of the book of Jeremiah. In this passage, God tells Jeremiah to go to the potter's house to receive a message. The potter works with clay on his wheel, molding and shaping it. Based on that passage, we can reflect on the following:
God is the Potter:
Our lives are in God's hands. He has a perfect plan for us, like a craftsman who sees the finished product before he begins. God promises that the result will be better than the beginning. He works through various circumstances and people to form us, even those who do us wrong.
We are the Mud:
Just as the potter molds clay, God molds us into his image. God has a purposeful purpose for us, even when we are not qualified.
Activity:
Imagine that you have a piece of clay in your hands. Visualize it. Think about how God is shaping your life, even in difficult situations. Think about what God has spoken for your life.
In short, you and I are unique and of great value to God, and He has chosen us. Each of us is a vessel in the hands of God, who is our potter. He gives us shape with his great love and patience and promises us that his plans for us are better than ours.
Today let us give thanks for everything, whatever our circumstances. The potter is working and will make us useful vessels in his hands. Let us not lose faith!
